Frequently asked questions
- Q: I can’t connect to Warez P2P.
- There are several possible reasons. First, make sure you have the latest version of the client. If you use a firewall, make sure it allows incoming and outgoing connections through the ports Warez P2P uses; you can find all port settings in the client’s Preferences section.
- Q: Searching or downloading is stuck on “connecting” after a Windows Update.
- Windows XP Service Pack 2 limits the number of half-open connections to 10, and some Windows Updates reset this limit again. Warez P2P shipped an SP2 connection patcher that raises the limit (included and updated in version 2.8). Run it again after Windows Updates, then reconnect. It only applies to Windows XP with SP2; you can check your version in Control Panel → System.
- Q: My file is split into .rar / .zip / .ace / .r00 / .part001 parts. How do I get the actual file?
- Use an archiver such as WinRAR to join the volumes back into full files. For a single .rar, .zip or .ace file, just open it. For multi-part archives, open the first part and extract everything to a folder; you can delete the parts afterwards. Some releases are nested, so you may need to repeat this.
- Q: A movie plays sound but shows no picture.
- The file is most likely compressed with a codec you don’t have, usually DivX or XviD. Install the codec, or use a tool such as GSpot to find out which codec the file needs.
- Q: A program opens a small window that closes instantly.
- It was probably made for a 16-bit system (DOS or Windows 9x) and needs an emulator such as DOSBox to run.
- Q: The file is an .iso / .bin image. How do I open it?
- A tool such as ISObuster opens image files in a WinZip-like window. You can also burn the image to a CD or DVD.
- Q: I downloaded a file and it wasn’t what the name said.
- Fake files are flooded into P2P networks to discourage downloading. Version 2.9 added active fake file protection that removes nearly all of them, so make sure you run the latest version.
